Starlight Tears

At the center of an island
Many oceans away
Where there is only night and never day,
A young maiden sits.
Her hair is pale as the moon
And her eyes as deep and dark as the heavens
She wears a stained white gown
And cries her starlight tears.

Her delicate fingers strive to scrub away the stains
The stains that mar the once pure white gown
But they never fade
Always there
Always a reminder
And she cries her starlight tears.

Each stain marks a time when she gave a piece of herself away
Seeking only to be loved
Any young man who fancied her
Won a piece of her heart
But every time she gave away and he took
He never stayed long and always left
Left her to cry her starlight tears.

Other stains marked times when she loved a young man
Yet he did not return her love
But still she gave away pieces of her heart
To try to win his love
But each time she failed
And once again she was left
To alone cry her starlight tears.

And so she sits on her little island
Heart shattered
Spirit broken
No hope left
Nothing more to give
Prince Charming never came
And if he did
What would she have to give?
She lets the pain take over
And bitterly cries her starlight tears.

And yet even on that little island
So far from worlds that are known
She could not hide from the face of God
Who knew and saw it all
He did not view her with contempt
Only with tender love
And holding out a hand to her
He bid her come back to Him
For she was dear and precious to Him
And He had a perfect plan
So she need no longer cry her starlight tears.

She could only stare at the hand offered
How could He still love her?
Had He not seen her every sin?
Did He not know that she had given all she had away?
Did He not know that no man would have her now?
Yet still as she looked into His eyes
She saw only love
And with a trembling hand she placed her hand in His
As to the ground at His feet fell her starlight tears.

And with a loving kindness
That only God possesses
He led her back to the narrow path
And set her on her way
Gently guiding
Always there
That she might not go astray
And she walked faithfully beside Him
And learned more of Him each day
Till her heart was wholly His
And she no longer cried her starlight tears.

On that day, such a glorious day,
The Lord revealed to her
The man who had been specially created just for her
And such joy was in her heart
The day she walked down that aisle
Clothed all in pure white
Not a stain in sight
For He had made her clean
And they built a happy home together
And though it was not always easy
They learned to love each other
With a tender, abiding love
And never did she ever cry her starlight tears again.
